Chandler Fire Department Administration Headquarters
The Chandler Fire Department Administration Headquarters
building is influenced by the architecture of historic
firestations. Careful consideration was given to the material
selections to both echo this influence as well as complement the
surrounding context in
downtown Chandler, Arizona. The primary function of the
administration building is to provide office spaces for fire
department chiefs and personnel as well as an Emergency
Operations Center (EOC). Also considered was the desire to
memorialize the history
of the fire department. This was accomplished through the use of
several focal points including a historic fire truck located in
a gallery style space. Reused fire hoses were weaved to create a
canopy that protects a large balcony space that surrounds the
double
height lobby. Along with these elements, a memorial plaza was
designed to the east of the administration building. The plaza
pays tribute to both fire and police personnel while maintaining
a cohesive language with the administration building. The
project is sited in
a manner that creates a street presence while tying together
what was a fragmented fabric between the various surrounding
municipal buildings. This also aided in reaching the targeted
LEED Gold Certification.
