Fire Station 55
Fire Station No. 55 is a 4-bay fire station located at a highly visible intersection where the highway meets the city. This highly articulated two-story, 18,995 s.f. building responds to this prominent location with a carefully considered palette of architectural elements. The resulting station blends elements of the nearby residential and commercial developments including colors, materials and building massing. The design team developed the elevations and massing to break down the large scale that the program called for, which includes 13 dorms, living spaces, fitness room and several covered outdoor spaces. The building is sited to maximize solar orientation and will be constructed out of I.C.F. and Masonry with insulated furring. This will provide a thermal envelope that coupled with the broad roof overhangs, deeply recessed windows, trellises and courtyards will perform as a sustainable fire station. The project team is targeting LEED Silver Certification.
