Station No. 110
Pinetop Fire Station No. 110 is a two-story 12,366 s.f. fire
station located on a hillside site. Due to the small size of the
site, the station was split into two levels, public and
private. The majority of the first level is accounted for by the
apparatus bays and its associated spaces. Offices, a community
space and the fitness room are also located on
the ground level. The private aspect of the fire station is
located on the second level. This includes dorms, dayroom,
dining and kitchen. The project drew its identity from the
context of the site, which is the White Mountains in the Apache
/ Sitgreaves National Forest and the alpine quality of the
Pinetop-Lakeside community. The resulting station ties
into the existing fabric through the use of massing, material
selection and limited disturbance to the mountain-side site. An
interesting aspect of the program was a hose drying tower which
is also designed to be used for H.A.R.T. Training and forest
fire observation. The project is constructed with I.C.F.
exterior walls which are clad in siding. The apparatus bays and
training tower were constructed with masonry.
