Station No. 7
St. John’s Fire District Station No. 7 is located on Johns Island, South Carolina. This quiet rural area lies to the south of Charleston’s metropolitan city and suburbs, though it has its own unique character. Over the past decades, the Charleston area has seen an unprecedented amount of growth. John’s Island has a long agricultural history that is continuing to thrive and the island has seen new developments both in agricultural and single family residences. Rosenblum Coe was challenged to design a station to meet the
growing needs of the community while still blending in with the island vernacular. The areas surrounding the site for the fire station include farm lands and equestrian facilities, which dictate the architectural character of this fire station.

The Island’s original fire station was outgrown as the population increased and moved into previously undeveloped areas in the northwestern part of John’s Island. A new station was needed to continue providing fire protection to all of John’s Island residents. The location of the station was chosen to ensure adequate response times to residents of northwestern
John’s Island.

The station’s program included:

  • 2 truck apparatus bay
  • Bunk Room capable of accommodating 8 firefighters
  • Locker Room
  • Kitchen and Living Areas
  • Workout Room
  • Laundry Facilities
